GSF Blog Hop – Kids Cards

Hello friends!

I’m sorry I’ve been a little MIA recently – I have good reason with some exciting things coming down the pipe! Until I can release any more info, I am back to regular posting. And what a better way to be back than with a Blog Hop with my friends over at the Global Stamping Friends?!

gsf-blog-hop
Today’s hop is all about Kids Cards! Sometimes I struggle with kids cards even though the perception is that they’re easy to make. To be honest, I find them the most challenging! Kids likes and dislikes are constantly changing, so sometimes it’s hard to keep up!

Having said that, I think I’ve come up with a couple of kids cards that will impress even the toughest of our little critics!

Enter: the Magical Mermaid Stamp Set!

Mermaid Card

Isn’t this just gorgeous? I used Pacific Point, Bermuda Bay, and Dapper Demin ink to create the beautiful watercolour background, and then used the Watercolour Pencils to colour in the mermaid. Unfortunately, there are no dies or framelits with this set, but it’s nothing a little fussy cutting can’t solve!

Oh, and just in case you’re wondering about the watermark on the photo, Sweet Paper Studios is my other small business. You can learn more and check out my page by clicking HERE.

My next card involves a little punch art! I don’t do very much punch art, but when I do, I can’t help but go all-out!

Leo Lion Card - Stamping Girl

This sweet little lion was created using the Fox Builder Punch, along with a 2″ scallop punch for his mane. You can find the leaves in the Pretty Pines Thinlits Dies.

Leo Lion 2 - Stampin' Girl

I just love how both of these cards turned out and I know that the recipients loved them too!

What about you, do you find kids’ cards hard to design?

If you want more ideas, be sure to hop on over to see Kristie’s kids’ cards by clicking the next button, or you can view the list of blog hop participants below!

Friday Introductions

Friday Introductions

Have you heard of Friday Introductions? It’s an Instagram movement started by The Rising Tide Society as a way to get to know the maker, creator, entrepreneur…you get the hint. Well, I love this concept, so I thought why not borrow it and use it here on the blog so you could get to know me, and perhaps I can get to know you?!

So without further ado, let’s kick off the first of many Friday Introductions!

I’m Lisa. I am the girl behind the blog, and I am so proud to invite you to The Stampin’ Girl Blog. I’m also a small business owner; not just because I’m a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, but because I also own a small business called Sweet Paper Studios. With this business, I sell my handmade cards, custom prints, paper party decorations, and other paper goods. I also work full-time as an Education Coordinator at one of our local hospitals. So needless to say, I’m one busy woman!

When I’m not working or busy stampin’, I love spending time with my two boys (Eric and Andrew) and my husband Doug. Family is the most important thing in my life, and I just love creating lasting memories with the little things that come from our daily lives.

My favourite colour is blue, I can eat grilled cheese everyday, and I have a serious thing for cupcakes, especially chocolate! And I love to bake.

So now that you know a little about me, I’d love to learn more about you! So my question for you is (and I will include my answer below too):

Q: If you could sit on a bench in a beautiful woods, who would you like sitting next to you on the bench and why?

A: My Nana. She passed a few years ago of Cancer, but I would love to sit down with her just like we used to, with a tea in hand, and update her on everything in my life, as well as listen to how she has been and doing.

That was a little deep so don’t feel like to have to dig that far, but I’d love to hear your answers! So please introduce yourself and leave your answer in a comment below!

Until next time!

Bloomin’ Heart Thinlits Dies Design Idea

Bloomin' Heart 2

The Bloomin’ Hearts Thinlits Dies is probably one of my all-time favourite Stampin’ Up! Dies (and they will be in the new catalogue coming out on June 1st!). Not only is it beautiful, but it’s also so versatile! Having said that, there’s one card design idea that I wanted to share with you and I hope you love it just as much as I do.

I was asked to make this card for a friend of mine for her anniversary. As she was describing her relationship to me and the love she has for her Fiancé, one thing she told me really stood out,

He holds the key to my heart“.

So with this, a beautiful idea came to mind and I ended up designing a card that suit their relationship so perfectly. And she loved it!

Bloomin' Hearts 1

How cute is the key?! I actually found it in my ‘junk’ drawer (it’s really amazing what you can find in there!), gave it a good clean, and then put it to use! Note that there was two of the same keys, and to this day I have no idea what they are for, so I had no problem using it, hehe. The key itself is attached by using a piece of Bermuda Bay Bakers Twine.

You’ll notice that I used two Bloomin’ Heart cut-outs and just offset the colours for more of a ‘pop’. The background is embossed with the Falling Pedals Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (which is on the Retiring List and on sale for an incredible 50% off right now!). You’ll also see that I used three of the hearts from the 2016-2018 In Color Enamel Shapes (which is also on the Retiring List and on sale for 50% off!).

I finished off the card with a lovely sentiment, which I printed from the computer, and then cut out the sentiment with the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies (another favourite of mine).

TIP: I used the second largest Oval Stitched Framelit, which measures 2-3/4″ x 1-5/16″. If you are using a custom printed sentiment, font sizes 18 through 22 fit best in this oval size depending how long your sentiment is.

I really love all of my Stampin’ Up stuff, so be sure to get your hands on the retiring items before they are gone for good! You can shop online in my Canadian Online Stampin’ Up! Shop. I truly appreciate being your Demonstrator.

Stampin’ Up! OnStage Local Recap – April 2017

OnStage Sign

I’m a little bit behind in recapping my first OnStage experience (it’s what happens when you’re dealing with a flooded basement), but never the less, I thought it was still worth while to share such an amazing experience with you all.

If you’re not familiar with OnStage, this is an exclusive event held by Stampin’ Up! for their Demonstrators. It’s a one day conference that literally happens all over the world! There is the main OnStage event, which just happened to be in Amsterdam this time (oh man, how I would loved to go there!), but then there is also OnStage Local, which is smaller events throughout various countries so that even more people can attend. Luckily, the event closest to me just happened to be in Toronto, which is nice and close to me.

thumb_IMG_1213_1024thumb_IMG_1134_1024Survival Kit
My New Catalogue Survival Kit from Jenn Tinline!

This event allows demonstrators to learn about new products (i.e. the new 2017 – 2018 catalogue!), do some small business training, and even get crafty!

Most importantly though, it was inspiring.

Inspiring in ways that I can’t quite get down on paper (or screen). There’s just something about being in a room full of like-minded, talented, and oh-so-inspiring women (and some men), that just warms your heart. You get to meet new people and create lasting friendships, see others amazing Stampin’ creations, and really connect with other Demonstrators on a more personal level that you rarely get the chance to do.

I was lucky in that the majority of our Stamp with Jenn Demonstrator Team was there too! It’s amazing to connect with everyone in person so we can all reach the same goal:

Stampin' Up Mission

I can’t begin to express how much I love being a Demonstrator and how much I love to share my projects with you all. I am so happy I decided to take the plunge to join Stampin’ Up! a year and a half ago, and OnStage really reiterated my feelings!

The new product coming out on June 1st is amazing (as you may have seen some of the projects I’ve already shared), and I was even fortunate enough to win three stamp sets from Stampin’ Up! at OnStage! Can you say Prize Patrol?!

One of the main highlights of OnStage was seeing the display boards, not only of new products themselves, but to actually see them in action by way of Demonstrator creations. I love how we are able to preorder and play with new items because it allows us to show you , our amazing customers, what is coming and how easy it is to create projects with just a few items.

The fun wasn’t over after OnStage was finished either, as the Stamp with Jenn Team went out for dinner, not just to chat and swoon over the new catalogue, but to celebrate what it means to be a Demonstrator.

Team Photo

To be part of a team. A community. A family.

I truly love what I do and being a Demonstrator has allowed me to share my passion with others. I can’t wait for the next OnStage! And next year, I’ll be attending the big 30th Anniversary of Stampin’ Up! in Orlando! Would you like to join me?

P.S. – Be sure to sign up for my NEW newsletter to continue getting sneak peeks and updated on all exciting things there are to come!

Global Design Project GDP #074: Oh So Succulent

succulent-blog-1

I finally received my Oh So Succulent Bundle in the mail yesterday, I literally couldn’t open  the package fast enough! The amount of projects and cards that I’ve seen, combined with one of my upcoming classes (Succulent Garden Party), I really couldn’t get this set in my hand fast enough. I have been DYING to play with it…ok, well not dying, but as a fellow crafter you know how antsy we get when we’re waiting for a package to arrive!

I didn’t have anything else planned, so I basically dove right in to create this card for the Global Design Project GDP #074. This is the first time I’ve entered a design into any challenge, so I am excited to do so, and to also see what other designs other stampers have come up with. The only stipulation is that we need to create a design based on their sketch, which is what you see below. Though it is important to note that the sketch is just a guideline and we can make the project our own, which is where the fun and creativity come in.

gdp074

For this card in particular, I decided to stick with some bright and cheery colours such as Sweet Sugarplum, Melon Mambo, and Bermuda Bay; and  of course I used the Oh So Succulent stamp set and framelits dies. The sentiment is from the new Avant Garden stamp set that is part of the current Sale-A-Bration promotion. You can get this set for FREE! Click HERE to learn more!

succulent-blog-5

For this card I also used our new Watercolour Pencils. Let me tell you – these are a game changer when it comes to stamping! They can be used alone or you can use them with the Aqua Painter like I did to create a really beautiful watercolour effect. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these pencils and will be using them for the larger stamps that I’ve typically left aside because I didn’t know how I should colour them in.

succulent-blog-2

I am very happy with the results of this card. In fact, I made two of them so I can send them to my twin baby cousins for their 1st birthday!

succulent-blog-4

Jump on over to the Global Design Project gallery and check out all the different interpretations of the sketch…and why not take the challenge and enter your own card!

Happy Stamping!

Have A Cuppa Card Sampler

Nice Cuppa Designer Paper Cards

Guys, I am in love! With the Have A Cuppa Designer Series Paper Stack that is!

Seriously, aren’t these so cute?! This paper stack is probably one of my new faves, and you can find it on page 35 of the new 2016 Occasions Catalogue from Stampin’ Up!

I love it because all of the colours work really well together; they are so bright and cheery, and are a subtle reminder to me that Spring is, in fact, on it’s way!

Here’s a closer look at the cards with some detailed information.

Here’s To You:
This card measures 4″ x 5½”. Each designer paper is 1¼” x 5¼”. The white flag measures  1″ x 3″.

For embellishments, I used three of the Brights Candy Dots from Stampin’ Up! and a flower I already had on hand.

Nice Cuppa - Here's to You

You Are Tea-riffic:
This card measures 4¼” x 5½”. Each designer paper is 1¼” x 5¼”. The white flag measures  1″ x 3″.

For embellishments, I used three of the Brights Candy Dots from Stampin’ Up! and then I made a tea bag from vellum paper and Blushing Bride Baker’s Twine (currently on clearance for only $1.59!).

Nice Cuppa - Tea Riffic

You Are So Loved:
This super cute card (measuring 4¼” x 5½”, and now one of my favourites) was made using the Herringbone Technique. Believe it or not, this is my first card using this technique. Not too shabby if I do say so myself 🙂

Most of this card was made using leftover scrap pieces of paper; a good reason why I always save mine!

If you’re just hearing about this technique, then stay tuned! I hope to film my very first video tutorial on this technique soon!

Nice Cuppa Herringbone

What do you think about this paper stack? I’d love to see the cards you’re making with it. Post on Instagram and use the hashtag #handmadecuppa so I can follow along!
